Most of my senior guys start with the same question: “What should I even wear?” You don’t need a closet full of clothes or a fashion degree to look good on camera—you just need a few simple guidelines to help you feel confident and pulled-together.
Solids and textured fabrics always photograph best. If you love a pattern, keep it subtle—and if you’re layering, anchor it with a solid piece. Think a lightly patterned shirt under a solid jacket or sweatshirt. This keeps the focus on you, not your clothes, and adds depth to your photos without distraction.
Denim is always a win, but skip heavy distressing or destruction—it can pull attention away from your expression. If you’re going for a relaxed vibe, choose lighter or medium washes. Want something more elevated without feeling “dressed up”? Dark denim or black jeans look sharp and timeless.
Layers give you more looks without a full outfit change. A button-down shirt by itself can be clean and simple—add a denim jacket, cargo jacket, or bomber and you instantly have a new vibe. Layers also photograph really well in Columbus’ cooler seasons, giving movement and texture to your images.
Your senior portraits celebrate one of the biggest milestones of your life—so dress the part. That doesn’t mean stiff or formal; it just means showing up with intention. Wrinkled shirts, baggy hoodies, or clothes that don’t fit well can make you look heavier on camera and less polished. Clothes that fit properly—shoulders right, sleeves clean, hems tailored—make a massive difference.
Footwear can make or break your look. You can absolutely wear sneakers or tennis shoes if that’s your style—just make sure they’re insanely clean. Think “like new” or “sparkly white.” Chukka boots, Docs, Converse, or Vans also photograph beautifully and add personality without feeling overdone.
Stick to neutral tones: gray, navy, olive, tan, black, and cream. These shades complement every skin tone and location. If you want to add color, do it subtly with a jacket, shirt detail, or shoes. Avoid neon hues and big logos—they can pull focus and date your photos fast.
Clean denim + tee or henley + sneakers (casual classic)
Button-down + chinos + boots (elevated casual)
Sweater or overshirt + dark jeans + chukkas (fall favorite)
Patterned shirt (subtle) + solid jacket + clean shoes (modern edge)
At the end of the day, the best outfits are the ones that make you feel like you. When you feel comfortable and confident, it shows in every frame. I’ll help you fine-tune your looks before your session so you show up relaxed, prepared, and ready to look incredible.
Your senior portraits should look effortless—but never accidental. The right outfit helps you look sharp, confident, and completely authentic. So grab your favorite jeans, layer up, and bring your clean kicks—then let’s make it your best photo day yet.
