Senior Pictures in Columbus, Ohio: Everything You Need to Know
Senior year is full of major moments—but few are as exciting (and lasting) as senior pictures. If you're a teen in the Columbus area, this is your chance to capture who you are right now—in a way that feels true, stylish, and one hundred percent you.
As a Columbus senior photographer who works with fashion-forward seniors all across Central Ohio, I’ve put together everything you need to know before stepping in front of the camera.
When Should You Book Senior Pictures in Columbus?
Most seniors schedule their session between June and November of the year before they graduate. June through August is the most popular time—thanks to long summer days, flexible schedules, and that gorgeous golden-hour light. October is a close second for those dreamy fall colors everyone loves.
No matter the season, booking early is the key to getting first pick of dates, locations, and professional hair and makeup artists (they book up fast too!).
What to Wear for Senior Portraits
One of the best ways to make your session feel personal is through your outfit choices. I always tell my seniors: stick to your usual style—but kick it up a notch. These images will be with you for years, so make sure they still feel like you (just the polished, camera-ready version).
Avoid outfits that are super trendy (save those for one “wild card” look if you really love them). Instead, aim for:
- One light outfit
- One dark outfit
- One with a pop of color
- One wild card outfit for personality
This gives you tons of variety in both look and posing. Also, avoid wearing only one type of outfit like all dresses or all jeans—it’ll limit the creativity and range of your final gallery.
Fit matters more than anything. Avoid anything too tight or too baggy. Fitted clothing photographs best and helps you look polished without distractions. As for jewelry, keep it simple so it doesn’t take the attention away from you.
Where to Take Senior Pictures in Columbus
There are so many beautiful places in and around Columbus—it really depends on the vibe you're going for. A few of my favorite locations:
- Bridge Park in Dublin for a modern, urban edge
- German Village for a mix of urban, florals and a little grit
- Glacier Ridge Metro Park for natural light and open-air vibes
- Short North for color, art, and personality
We’ll pick a location (or two!) that fits your style and story. I help guide every client through this process, so you don’t have to figure it out alone.
What Makes My Senior Experience Different
I’ve designed every part of my experience to be as fun, easy, and personal as possible. I’m not just showing up with a camera and snapping a few shots. From helping you plan outfits, choosing locations, guiding you through posing, and making you feel totally at ease—I’m there every step of the way.
And let’s be real: senior year is full of pressure. This session is one of the few things that’s just for you. It’s your time to shine, celebrate how far you’ve come, and feel amazing doing it.
After the Session: What Happens Next
Once your session is done and your images are edited, you’ll come in for your ordering appointment. You’ll get to see all your images for the first time and choose how you want to display them—whether that’s in a statement wall piece, a custom-designed album, or beautifully matted gift prints. It’s all about creating something you’ll love for a long time.
Let’s Make This Year Unforgettable
Senior pictures aren’t just a checkmark on the to-do list—they’re a celebration of who you are. If you’re ready to feel confident, seen, and totally yourself in front of the camera, let’s talk.
Dates are booking - especially for summer and fall. Reach out now and let’s start planning your dream session.
Frequently Asked Questions About Senior Pictures in Columbus, Ohio
When should I book my senior pictures?
Most seniors book between June and November before their graduating year. Summer is the most popular time due to long days and flexible schedules, but October is amazing for fall color. Heads up, I booked limited sessions per year (about 30 seniors) before my calendar is closed.
What should I wear for my senior session?
Stick to your personal style, but elevate it a bit. Think variety—light, dark, bold color, and one fun “wild card” outfit. Avoid busy patterns and oversized or too-tight fits. Keep it flattering and comfortable.
How long is a typical senior session?
My sessions typically last between 90 minutes and 2 hours, with enough time for outfit changes, multiple shoot spots, and capturing a range of looks.
Do you offer professional hair and makeup?
Yes! I work with trusted artists who know how to create a polished, age-appropriate look that photographs beautifully.
Can I include a parent, sibling, or pet in the session?
Absolutely! Many of my seniors love including someone special in a few of their portraits, whether that’s a parent, sibling, or even their dog.
What happens after the session?
About a week after your session, I'll have you back at my studio to see all the finished insanely gorgeous images we created together! This is your personalized ordering appointment to view your images and select your favorites for albums, wall art, and gift prints.
