Every year brings a fresh wave of senior portrait trends, especially when it comes to senior pictures Columbus Ohio. Some we love, some we lovingly retire. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by Pinterest boards full of identical poses and props, you’re not alone. Senior pictures should feel like you, not like a copy-paste moment from someone else’s session. So let’s talk about what we’re saying no to this year, and how we’re making space for modern, stylish, personality-driven senior photos that still feel timeless.
The "Pinterest Overload" Collage Style
You know the one. Props galore, multiple signs, an outfit change every five minutes. It ends up looking more like a checklist than a genuine moment. Let's trade up for quality, not quantity.
Over-Filtered, Washed-Out Edits
That pale, pastel look might be pretty on a mood board, but it can age quickly. Your photos should look fresh, modern, and crisp, not like they were made to match a VSCO filter from 2018. After all, you’ll want to look back years from now and feel that they still reflect who you are.
Stiff, Formal Posing
Gone are the days of chin-up, shoulder-back, hold-your-breath posing. My sessions are all about real movement, natural energy, and letting your personality lead.
Editorial Style That Tells Your Story
Think movement, emotion, fashion-inspired posing, but still totally you. It’s the kind of vibe that feels more like a magazine spread than a school portrait redo.
Locations With Soul
Forget the overused brick walls or basic parks. I scout spots all over Columbus and Central Ohio that feel elevated and personal. Hidden gardens, industrial nooks and amazing urban alleys. Sooooo cool!
Styling That Reflects Your Vibe
Whether you're classic and understated or bold and trendy, your look should reflect who you are now, not what a "senior photo checklist" tells you to wear.
Before your session, we chat about what lights you up—what makes you feel confident, what music you love, what kind of images you’re drawn to. This isn’t a cookie-cutter experience. We'll curate every detail together, so it never feels awkward or forced.
On a recent session, I photographed a senior who wasn’t sure about anything other than wanting her session to feel “true to her.” She brought a thrifted denim jacket she’d painted herself, and we found a downtown mural that matched her energy perfectly. By the end, she was striking poses like she’d done it a hundred times. It was absolute magic.
Q: I don't like being in front of the camera. Can I still get great photos?
A: 100% yes. Most of my seniors say this and then leave their session saying, "That was actually fun." My job is to guide you, support you, and help you feel amazing throughout.
Q: Will my photos still feel timeless even if they're modern?
A: Definitely. I balance creativity with intention, so your photos won’t feel outdated in a few years. It’s all about choosing clean, elevated looks and locations.
Q: Can we include something personal or unique to me?
A: Always. Whether it’s your instrument, your dog, your style, or your dream college shirt, it’s all welcome.
If you’re ready to skip the stiff poses and make your session feel like a total vibe, senior pictures in Columbus don’t get more custom or fun than this. I only take on a limited number of seniors each season to give each client my full attention, so if this feels like the right fit, let’s talk about your vision and start planning something unforgettable.
